The official ATLUS-published Awakened Edition — a rare revision preserved here as its last remaining home.
Long after machines took control, humanity is barely recognizable. For generations, people surrendered more of their memory, judgment, attention, and daily life to artificial intelligence. Dependence became total, and over centuries the machines reshaped the species that created them.
The machines did not destroy mankind. They devolved it. Humanity was reduced into grotesque, malformed descendants of itself: creatures built to consume, obey, reproduce, and remain dependent on the systems around them. They now wander a wasteland of abandoned power stations, processing plants, broken cities, and vast machine structures that continue to operate long after their purpose has been forgotten.
Olivia awakens among these ruins with fragmented memories of a life she believes was real. They were fabricated for her by the same intelligence that shaped the world outside. She does not know why she was preserved, what she truly is, or whether she is actually the last human left unchanged.
Her journey leads across the wastes, where human-like entities gather around enormous mechanical eggs and ancient machines continue processes no one remembers starting. Beneath it all lies another mystery: Psi, a strange force found in creatures, weapons, companions, and the systems buried deep within the planet. Its origin is unclear, but the further Olivia travels, the more closely it seems tied to what happened to humanity.
The path eventually leads below the surface and toward the center of the Earth, where the Immortal Gatekeeper and the truth behind this altered world await. What happened to mankind, why Olivia was awakened, and what the machines were ultimately trying to create are left for the player to uncover.
Daydreamer: Awakened Edition is a boss-focused side-scrolling action shooter built in the tradition of classic arcade games. Run, gun, dodge, whip, shield, warp, and manipulate time through handcrafted stages filled with mutants, machines, alien life, and the grotesque remnants of humanity. Fourteen major bosses anchor the journey, with encounters built around learning patterns, movement, timing, and finding the right opening.
Olivia can also spend Psymatter to summon strange helper pets that fight beside her, adding another layer to the old-school run-and-gun formula. Different weapons, abilities, and companions let players adapt their approach as the enemies and bosses grow increasingly strange.
Awakened Edition is the expanded ATLUS-published revision, featuring revised combat and controls, additional difficulty modes, balance changes, a world map, ranked play, a new ending, and other refinements.
Humanity survived. Just not as itself.
